Who are your favourite people from history?
Or is there just one central figure you feel particularly drawn to?
My favourite people were the Picts. I’m not interested in the Gaels or the Britons or the Vikings for that matter. The Pictish people are what fascinate me about Scottish history. Big, hairy, tattooed warrior men but who produced the most beautiful instruments and stone carvings.
I’m also really interested in Native Americans. There are so many parallels between their history and Scottish history. Our cultures are actually strikingly similar.
Who floats your boat?
As a Scot I have to admire the courage of William Wallace, who stood up against the tyranny of England and the corruption of the Scottish Nobles to fight for FREEDOM. Although his efforts seem to have all been for nothing, since today there is even more corruption in the politics of society.
I also have an interest in the Pictish people, as I was born and bred in Angus and consider them to be part of local history through the remains of standing stones. In particular I am interested it their artistic skills, and have included a section on my web site trying to understand the meaning of their symbols found on many standing stones.
