Can a tempo run count as a PR?

Would it be right to tell people my tempo run time as a PR instead of an official race time? I double checked the distance and it’s 3.02miles on the USATF track website. This was 30 seconds faster than anything Ive ever run as far as a race. The thing that just bugs me was that it was my personal watch and not a timing chip or anything… would it be honest to tell people this time as a PR?

No, I think it’s fine to tell people your tempo run time as your PR. As long as you are sure you timed it correctly and its the same distance, I see nothing wrong with it. It is your best time after all, even if it wasn’t in a race.
