Half Marathons In The Northwest

Running Half-Marathon in 3 weeks?!?

Hi, I signed up for this marathon run in Vancouver BC which will be happening on May 1, 2011.
I’ve been training here and there, but not very consistently. And what I mean by this is I don’t train 3 or 4 times weekly which is I’m suppose to be doing. Plus it’s been pouring down rain here in the Northwest for the past 2 months. Anyways, is there anyway I can run my FIRST half-marathon in just a 3 week training? I just need some tips as of how often and when I should run. Also, after I run I get EXTREMELY hungry. I’m an average built guy with average muscle mass and six packs etc. but how can I stop myself from eating so much and not gain wieght because I heard that I have to be “skinny” if I really want the best results when it comes to running marathon. Oh by the way I’m 5’8″ and my weight is 137 lbs. I’m an 18 year old dude. Thanks!

I suggest that you start running regularly. You don’t have any guarantee that it won’t be pouring down rain the day of the race so man up and run through it. What not running regularly has done is not allow you to increase your mileage thus your body won’t be accustomed to running for an hour and a half (that is extremely optimistic) or two hours or two and a half hours. That isn’t so much a problem (I did the same thing once) as a discomfort (when you are running the race). At your age and with 3 weeks to the race, don’t worry about what you eat, I doubt you will be seeing any significant weight gain. Good luck!
