January 2011 Health Update
Before starting my article I will like to say a few words about health.
“Every human being is the author of his own health or disease.”
“He, who has health, has hope. And he, who has hope, has everything.”
“It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver.”
I thought that I’d like to post a general update of news that keeps you abreast of the current research related news. Well Christmas and New Year are behind us but what about the results of the festivities? The British Foundation published an interesting fact-the average weight gain in the U.K. over the Christmas holidays is 5lbs. So if you then eat really carefully in the subsequent months, it can take months to lose it! Swedish researchers have added to the woah but publishing an article that states that those binging on junk food for a month will be a stone heavier than there healthier counterparts. Apparently fatty foods can also cause a change in physiology that makes weight harder to shift and keep off, than their healthier friends.
Its official Exercise-helps you eat less(kind of hard eating on the go eh!). Apparently exercise suppresses Ghrelin, a hormone that stimulates appetite. So those nasty brain cells that dont do what there meant to do are re-stimulated and control of eating is re-established. And when those muscles are aching try eating some ‘Zingiber officinale Rosc.’ or root ginger. Trials published in the Journal of Pain showed that eating it after exercise reduced pain and soreness by 25%. After all this you’ll probably be wanting your bed? Researchers in Northwestern University-Chicago, found that those who suffered from sleep problems dramatically improved if they regularly used a treadmill or bike. As an added benefit they reported better mood and more energy. While your doing all this try listening to
- I Gotta Feeling by the Black Eyed Peas as a warm up, then moving onto for the main part of your work out…
- Red Alert by Basement Jaxx
- Sandstorm by Darude
- The Sunshine after the rain by Berri
- You’ve got the love remix by Sanna and Pitron, then cooling down to…
- Make you feel my love by Adele
When you put this together with keeping a diary that tracks your results and having a reason to make the change to reduce inactivity will help. Involve your friends and family in anyway you can to support your positive changes has also been shown be successful. Lastly dont expect too much too soon-wanting to run a sub 15 minute 5k first time out aint really likely to happen. So eat the cake in small bites!-so to speak. You might want to consider drinking Green tea before your work out as French researchers have found that it is rich in catechins polyphenols. These can raise your metabolism by 4 % and as a natural source of caffiene-give you a boost. Also Australian researchers say that 3 cups a day can help reduce heart disease by 11% due to its high level of flavonoids. After exercise it is also important to take an ontioxidant hifh meal. It is well established that increased O2 consumption produces harmful free radicles. So do as New Zealand researchers say and take a Blackcurrent pill post work out.Hope you found this right up of use? I’ll post another in Feb.

Splendor in the Grass [VHS] $6.77 Elia Kazan’s pedal-to-the-metal approach to psychosexual melodrama paid off handsomely when he had layered material by Tennessee Williams or John Steinbeck to work with. The very raw material here is an original by hot-blooded playwright William Inge, about a pair of teenagers in the American Midwest in the 1920s whose lives are ruined by the repressive sexual climate of the period. The girl, play… |
