Mini golf Grass

Miniature golf follows almost the same rules that of a full sized golf and it’s a fun for the whole family. Usually, the miniature golf course is one tenth the size of a regular golf course. Mini golf was first played in 1868 by a Scottish men’s putting club in St. Andrews. It was created for women who were not allowed to play golf at that time due to the aggressive nature of the movement required to get a ball across the fairway. Thus, a miniature version seemed ideal for ladies’ delicate hands.

Mini golf course surfaces are good especially in the rainy season as water gets absorbed through it into the ground. Surfaces such as eternite and beton that are used for mini golf are not good during monsoon as rain water gets accumulated in them and prevents the ball from rolling.

Grasses for Mini golf Course

Some grasses which are considered to be great when the climate is cool are as follows. They are also known as mini golf grass.

  • Fescue Grass: This grass is strong and usually turns golden. It is widely used as fairway grass and could grow up to 3 feet in height.
  • Rye Grass: This grass generally grows upright. It has lenience to close mowing and has artistic appeal of stripping the reel mowers shaped on perennial rye grass turf.
  • Bent Grass: This grass is considered as the topmost quality of turf grass. There are several species of this and creeping bent grass is the most commonly used species for golf course.
  • Poa Trivialis: This grass provides high quality putting surface and is an alternative for bent grass especially during winters.
  • Kentucky Blue Grass: It’s good for tees that could be mowed higher and requires less preservation and cannot bear heat.
  • Poa Annua: This grass is considered as a most important weed on putting greens and fairways. They could provide a good putting area and could be mixed with rye and bent grass.

Golf putters which form an important part of golf clubs are very effective in miniature golf.
